From Texas to New Jersey, 34 New Gannett Newspapers Bring Local Perspectives to Researchers

ProQuest announces exclusive academic and public-library access to digitized local news archives from renowned publisher

ANN ARBOR, MI, August 23, 2021 – EdTech leader ProQuest is pleased to announce that an additional 34 newspaper titles from Gannett are now exclusively available to academic and public libraries for research, teaching and learning on the ProQuest platform.

These additional Gannett titles include the newspapers Memphis Commercial Appeal, Evansville Courier & Press, El Paso Times, The Record (Bergen County, NJ), Corpus Christi Caller Times and many more. Some of these titles have never before been digitally available to libraries.

“Gannett's history of award-winning journalism is what makes our archives so incredibly valuable,” said Maribel Perez Wadsworth, Gannett News President and USA TODAY Publisher. “Making our content digitally available to academic and public libraries through ProQuest enables even more access to our titles and provides decades of insights to the communities we serve.”

ProQuest plans to offer these titles from their first date of publication to today – along with the other 124 Gannett newspapers the company distributes. All of these Gannett titles will be offered in ProQuest’s Historical Newspapers collection in full digital format. In addition, contemporary news content from these titles, including unique web-only content, will be added to ProQuest’s U.S. and Global Newsstream product lines for users to access the most current news from each title.

“ProQuest is proud to offer additional local titles from Gannett which provide essential perspectives on events, places and people – perspectives that researchers can’t get anywhere else,” said Susan Bokern, Vice President of Product Management at ProQuest. “Whether it’s a PhD student diving deep to answer an academic research question, a student comparing how news reports different viewpoints from local perspectives, or a public library patron looking up an historical event in their town or city, many users can now easily obtain the information they are seeking with online access to Gannett’s valuable content in digital form.”

With cover-to-cover issues and searchable text, users can discover all types of content from Gannett digitized titles, including articles, editorials, photos, advertisements, obituaries and more. Available on the enhanced ProQuest platform, ProQuest news and newspapers can be searched along with a diverse selection of content – magazines, books, journals, dissertations and more – giving additional context to a research topic.
